Description

Community Bank Mirboo North and District

The Community Bank Mirboo North & District operates the Bendigo Bank franchise in Mirboo North. Since its inception in 2010, the Board is delighted to have funded over $160,000 towards projects, sporting sponsorships, and education in the thriving district of Yinnar. The total community contributions now stand at close to $2 million.

Community Banks are social enterprises that are able to strengthen their local communities thanks to the support of customers and shareholders. It enables 80% of profits to be returned to the community through grants, scholarships, sponsorships and donations, with the balance providing a healthy return to shareholders.

Yinnar has developed a vibrant arts community, with programs attracting locals and visitors from far and wide. The Art Resource Collective (ARC) officially opened in the old Butter Factory in 1987 and has seen many transformative developments. Over the years, the Community Bank Mirboo North & District has proudly contributed funding to the re-development of this unique creative space which include the Print Room upgrade, new chairs, asbestos removal and storage, and the Yinnar Biennial Drawing Prize 2016.

An exciting event held at ARC and in Main Street is the Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition which attracts Australia’s most prominent interior and exterior sculptors creating exquisite works, many winding along Main Street. The Community Bank has purchased four sculptures for the township since 2017 – Johnnie Be Good [Nicole Allen], Billy’s Last Muster [Rob Blast], ‘Go The Pies’ [Rob Blast] and Ginko 3 [Rudi Jass].

Community Grants

Do you or your community group have a project or an idea that requires funding?

We could assist you through our Community Investment Program (CIP). Our CIP is open in March and September each year for applications for not-for-profit community groups, including sporting groups, schools and individuals whose projects benefit the community in a meaningful way.

If your group is not incorporated, you can seek support from Yinnar & District Community Association (YDCA) who auspice the funding of fantastic projects. Some examples of these include a toddlers track at Yinnar Skate Park, the Yinnar RV stop, and the community defibrillator in the Main Street.

The Community Bank have always had a passion for helping locals pursue their dreams of tertiary education, something which can be extra challenging for rural areas. We have supported the Mirboo North & Distrct Community Foundation's Education Support Fund since its inception and as off 2018, we established a perpetual fund through a $160,000 donation, thus securing this program into the future.

This year, the Community Bank Mirboo North & District have stepped up their support of the program by offering to support 4 local youth in pursuing university studies, by providing each with a scholarship worth $6,000. These scholarships are open to youth from within our district and we encourage any eligible Yinnarians to apply. Applications are invited via https://mirboodistrictfoundation.org.au/apply-for-a-grant/education-support .
